Shepherd’s Pie – Cast Iron Boys
Shepherd’s Pie
Shepherd’s pie is a classic dish so here is our take – why don’t you have a go! We’re cooking this recipe inside a glass dish that fits inside a camp oven, inside of a camp oven mate.
Ingredients:
Cut of lamb – roughly 600 grams
Olive oil
Pepper
Garlic salt
Rosemary
2 carrots
2 onions
3-4 medium potatoes
2 tablespoons gravy mix powder
Roughly 2 cups of cold water
100ml cream
Good handful of mozzarella cheese
Method:
1/ Dice lamb into same-sized chunks and add to bowl. Add olive oil, pepper, garlic salt and rosemary then stir to combine. Place into a glass dish and flatten to level.
2/ Peel and slice carrots into chunks then place on top of meat. Peel and dice onions into chunks then place in dish. Mix 2 cups of water with 2 tablespoons of gravy powder mix then pour over meat and vegetables.
3/ Peel and thinly slice potatoes then spread over meat mixture. Pour cream over the top of the potatoes then spread cheese over the potatoes.
4/ Place casserole dish in the camp oven which is inside the camp oven mate. Crank the heat for 10 minutes then lower the heat right down and cook for 45 minutes. Remove the camp oven lid and cook for a further 15 minutes to brown up the top. Serve and enjoy!
